We recently spent a Saturday on a quick road trip to across the border. The idea of indulging in some of the best pizza the city has to offer was a great idea that we came up with on a whim. A quick search provided us with a curated list of four top pizza places in Buffalo, each boasting unique styles and flavors that promised to tantalize our taste buds. (Thanks to Dave Portnoy, whose pizza reviews have become a go-to resource for pizza enthusiasts everywhere, we felt confident in our choices.)
First Stop: La Nova
Our first destination was La Nova located at at 371 W Ferry St. The parking was convenient, and although it was quite busy, the place was impressively clean.
We placed our order using a kiosk, which was particularly handy given that our request was quite straightforward and uncomplicated. The kiosk itself was user-friendly, equipped with a clear touchscreen interface that allowed us to navigate through the menu options with ease. We appreciated the convenience it offered, as we could customize our selections without feeling rushed or pressured by waiting staff.
Once we completed our order, we were pleasantly surprised by the level of friendliness displayed by the staff members who were present both behind the counter and in the dining area. Their warm demeanor added a personal touch to our visit, making us feel valued as customers.
The reveal: When we got our pie, our mouths watered as we opened the box. The cheese pull was punctuated by oohs and ahhs and was definitely (spoiler alert) the best of the trip.
Second Stop: Pizza Joint Two
After wrapping up the first pizza—a tall order but one we eagerly finished—we set off for our next destination. The second pizzeria was smaller yet highly rated for its unique secret sauce that had garnered rave reviews.
When we dug into the second pizza, we were treated to a flavor explosion. The secret sauce added a rich depth, enhancing the familiar pepperoni and cheese. Each slice felt like a new adventure, revealing different tastes with each bite.
The kids debated which pizza they preferred. Their cheerful discussions added a special touch to our journey and reminded us how food can spark joy and conversation.
Third Stop: Pizza Joint Three
With our bellies pleasantly full but the adventure still alive, we proceeded to our third stop. Here, we decided to try New York-style pizza with its signature thin crust.
The massive pie presented a spectacular fold. The toppings were generous, and the kids started mimicking pizza-eating styles they’d seen in movies. It turned into a delightful experience of not just tasting but connecting culturally over our food.
Surrounded by laughter and drips of sauce on our faces, we cherished this slice of life as much as the pizza we devoured.

Final Stop: Pizza Joint Four
By our fourth and final stop, the mix of fatigue and satisfaction made for a thrilling atmosphere. Could we possibly fit in another pizza? The answer was a resounding yes; this was an adventure, after all!
The last joint was renowned for its inventive toppings. We settled on a classic pepperoni and cheese, this time with the exciting twist of jalapeños. The spicy kick blended perfectly with the rich cheese, making it a thrilling finale to our pizza tour.
As we compared notes on our favorites, lively debates sparked about flavors, toppings, and crust styles. This experience was more than about food; it was about the fun we shared together, making our journey even more memorable.
Reflecting on Our Pizza Adventure
As we drove back home, we reflected on our exciting day. What started as a simple journey across the border turned into an adventure full of laughter, connection, and, most importantly, delicious pizza.
This family road trip to Buffalo turned out to be a cheap yet incredibly fun way to spend a day. With each pizza place, we savored not just different flavors but also the joy of creating cherished memories together. Family meals have a wonderful way of bringing people closer, and this pizza tour was a delightful example of that.
